Repository and Discovery Services Librarian (Learning and Knowledge Senior Associate)

You are an energetic and driven librarian who values innovation and knowledge; you care about people’s lives, social and environmental issues, and you want to make a difference in the development of Latin America and the Caribbean. At the IDB you can apply your skills to our ongoing projects and have a positive impact on more than 633 million lives.

Background: The Felipe Herrera Library at the IDB headquarters (Washington, DC) is looking for a Repository and Discovery Services Librarian with minimum of 3 years of experience providing high-quality client oriented library services, for a 3-year appointment.

 What you will do:

  •  Development, implementation, and evolution of strategies and services for the seamless discovery of internal knowledge (via the IDB Repository at publications.iadb.org) and external information using Ex Libris’s Primo.
  • You’ll lead the life cycle of IDB electronic resources, which includes ensuring coherent metadata across digital platforms, interoperability, as well as repository management and troubleshooting.
  • You will also be the taxonomies and ontologies guru, developing and supporting a well-curated semantic structure for knowledge visibility while providing insight on implementation and new trends in semantics.
  • Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art digital content publishing approaches, such as researching and applying search engine optimization (SEO), relevancy boosting, and/or semantic web techniques.
  • Part of your passion is to conduct ongoing research on trends and best practices in e-resources management, discoverability, and user experience in order to maintain and enhance the IDB’s publications web presence.

Skills you will need:

Education: You have your Master’s in Library and/or Information Science or Information Management (or equivalent) with coursework covering or experience with the life cycle of electronic resources, including related trends and best practices. A second degree in a socio-economic development area and/or Latin American and Caribbean related topics will give you an edge.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience providing high-quality client oriented library services, 4 years of experience preferred. You have large experience managing repositories (such as DSpace, ContentDM, or other CMS used for gatekeeping), library systems (Aleph and SFX) and/or document management systems (like Sharepoint). As part of that experience, you’ve made taxonomies and ontologies work for knowledge discovery. You also provide troubleshooting to help clients find the information they need; and you are comfortable trying new things and/or exploring the back-end of systems to do so. You are knowledgeable about metadata and information exchange among systems. You have sound knowledge of semantic technologies such as experience with RDF, OWL, SPARQL, PoolParty, or Protégé (but your best friend’s name is Watson). You are comfortable navigating Windows and Linux servers, as well as Oracle and PostgreSQL databases. You are also familiar with HTML5, CSS, and XML, but your working knowledge of a scripting language (JavaScript, Ruby, Python, etc) is a plus. You value teamwork but are also able to work independently and use your own judgement. You also love working under pressure, in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is desirable.

Opportunity Summary:

Type of contract: Full-time Staff
Length of contract: 3 years
Location: Washington DC.

Our culture: Working with us you will be surrounded by a diverse group of people who have years of experience in all types of development fields, including transportation, health, gender and diversity, communications, and much more.
