Data and Publications Librarian for the Economic Research and Social Sectors (Learning and Knowledge Senior Associate)

You are an energetic and driven librarian who values innovation and knowledge; you care about people’s lives, social and macroeconomic issues, and you want to make a difference in the development of Latin America and the Caribbean. At the IDB you can apply your skills to our ongoing projects and have a positive impact on more than 633 million lives.

Background: The Felipe Herrera Library at the IDB headquarters (Washington, DC) is looking for a Data and Publications Librarian with minimum of 3 years of experience providing high-quality client oriented library services, for a 3-year appointment.

What you will do:

  • Support the publishing processes of data and publications generated by the outstanding teams of researchers (macroeconomists, public policy experts, educators, public health specialists, labor market researchers, etc.) working for the Social (SCL) and Research (RES) departments.
  • Create high-quality products for external information dissemination, such as LibGuides portals and email alerts, targeted to specific audiences within those teams;
  • Establish an evolving understanding of your client’s needs and development challenges, taking ownership of their content and jargon, while proactively delivering information and knowledge that meet those needs;
  • Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art digital content publishing approaches, such as researching and applying search engine optimization (SEO) and/or semantic web techniques;
  • Contribute your energy and creativity to the outstanding work of the reference desk and embedded librarians team.

Skills you will need:

Education: You have your Master’s in Library, Information Science or Information Management or equivalent; if you have a second degree in an area related to your clients’ development challenges (social sector and macroeconomics), you definitely have an advantage.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience providing high-quality client oriented library services. 4 years of experience preferred. You have sound searching and information curation skills, which help you find the right information and deliver it to your clients timely and effectively. You are knowledgeable about metadata information exchange among systems. You value teamwork but are also able to work independently and use your own judgement. You also love working under pressure, on a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is desirable.

Opportunity Summary:

Type of contract: Full-time Staff
Length of contract: 3 years
Location: Washington DC.

Our culture: Working with us you will be surrounded by a diverse group of people who have years of experience in all types of development fields, including transportation, health, gender and diversity, communications, and much more.
